Factors that I consider the most important while choosing a university
Placement Statistics : One of the most crucial factors while choosing an engineering college.
Reason being :-
1) It describes the past placement performance of students, to help you get a good idea of your own placement possibilities depending on your academic performance.
2) If a college has strong placement statistics, it means that it in fact also able to take in some of the the best crowd possible, & thus is able to produce the ‘creme dela creme’ (best of the best) students, who turn out to be highly employable.
3) A great placement record of the college, also suggests that the college would definitely be successful in creating an academically favorable environment for students to be able to think clearly & perform well in.
The students have a good infrastructure to study well & play hard in.
Infrastructure : It’s not just all about how aesthetic the building is. It’s mainly about the classroom, administrative building, workshop, computer labs & various laboratories. Students could perform & grasp concepts well, if these facilities are available & well maintained.
[Who would want to get admission to a college, which would be better off as a run-down haveli (mansion) in a horror movie?]
Extra-curricular activities : All work & no play? I don’t think so.
Any college which has an active timeline of extra curricular events, would definitely prove to be a place which encourages it’s students to stay physically fit & sharp, along with being academically excellent.
A college which does this, knows how to ensure it’s students are well rounded individuals. Academically sound & physically fit.
Location : This is not really a very important factor. Since the engineering college quality should matter more than its location, this factor should be the last of your concerns.
But yes, this should still be in your list of concerns. Considering whether any reputed software hubs or MNCs exist around the company. It’l be favorable for any possible industrial visits, or placements & internships for you!
The above are all some of the essential factors to be considered.
From my personal experience, Infrastructure & Placement Records are 2 most essential factors to be researched.
And to conclude, always try your best to actually visit the college. Because I believe that getting a feel of the college vibe, is highly important. Since it would be the place you would be spending for 5 days a week for the rest of the year!
